How to Make Instant Pot Chicken Bone Broth
In a 6 quart Instant Pot, toss in all the ingredients and then fill the liner up to the Max Fill line with water.
Ensure that the rubber seal of the Instant Pot lid is correctly and securely positioned. Then, place the top on the Instant Pot. Turn the steam release valve to the sealing position. Set the cooking mode on HIGH pressure for 2 hours.
Once it’s done, turn the valve to the vent position and let the steam vent from the instant pot entirely before opening.
To strain the broth, I suggest taking a pair of tongs and a large bowl and removing as much of the veggies and chicken feet as you can. This will make it lighter and easier to pour through a mesh strainer.
Place a fine mesh strainer over a large pot, bowl, or storage container and pour the broth to get the rest of the bits and pieces out. After straining the hot liquid, it may appear thin. It will turn into once it’s been in the fridge for a while. Taste the broth and add salt to your liking, if desired.
Slower Cooker Instructions
Place the ingredients in the slow cooker, ensuring not to overfill with water (approximately 8 cups). Remember not to fill the slow cooker beyond ¾ of its capacity. Simmer the bone broth on the LOW setting for 24 hours.
Storage and Reheating
Ice Cube Trays: I like to pour the bone broth into clean ice cube trays and freeze. This makes it easier to separate the broth into individual servings. Once they’re frozen, store them in a freezer-safe container or bag.
Mason Jars: Use wide-mouthed, mason jars to store chicken bone broth. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. When freezing, leave some space at the top for expansion during freezing. Make sure to cool the broth completely before filling the jars and avoid filling them to the brim to prevent breakage.
Silicone Molds: Pour the bone broth into silicone molds, such as muffin tins or specialized broth freezing molds. Once frozen, remove the broth portions from the molds and store them in freezer bags or containers.
How to use Bone Broth
Sip it as a Warm Beverage: Heat a mug of chicken bone broth and enjoy it as a comforting and nourishing drink on its own.
Base for Soups and Stews: Use this chicken broth as a flavorful base for homemade soups, stews, and chili recipes.
Grain and Legume Dishes: Add chicken bone broth while cooking grains like rice, quinoa, or farro, as well as legumes like lentils or beans, to infuse them with extra flavor.
Make Sauces and Gravies: Incorporate chicken bone broth into sauces and gravies for added depth and richness.
Reheat Leftovers: Use chicken bone broth to reheat leftovers, such as grains or roasted meats, to prevent them from drying out while adding flavor.
