Healthy Green Juice
Packed with just six ingredients, this healthy green juice, easily made with a juicer or blender, is a micro-nutrient-rich elixir for a refreshing and nutritious boost to your day.
Since the beginning of the new year, I’ve been kickstarting my health goals with a daily dose of homemade healthy green juice. Discovering how easy it is to whip up at home, I’ve bid farewell to overpriced store-bought versions.
Not only does it serve as a fantastic way to utilize leftover produce, but the immunity boost, increased energy, and radiant skin are the perks that keep me committed to this refreshing beverage.
No juicer? No problem! You can still whip up this healthy green juice using a trusty blender. Just toss in the ingredients, blend to perfection, and strain the juice through a mesh strainer or nut milk bag.
Why You’ll Love This Healthy Green Juice
Simple and Healthy. Green juice is a straightforward way to infuse your diet with a variety of essential nutrients and essential minerals.
Budget-Friendly. Making green juice at home is a cost-effective alternative to purchasing pre-packaged options, allowing you to enjoy a nutritious beverage without breaking the bank.
No Juicer Required. Green juice can be easily prepared using a blender and some way to strain the juice, like a mesh strainer or nut bag/cheese cloth.
Increased Energy. The nutrient-rich content of green juice contributes to a natural energy boost, helping you stay invigorated throughout the day without relying on caffeinated beverages.
Detoxification Benefits. Green juice acts as a great detoxifying agent, aiding in removing toxins from the body and promoting a cleaner, healthier internal system.
Ingredients
- Kale: I’m using dino kale leaves for the leafy green component of this juice. It lends a beautiful, deep emerald color to the juice, and it’s packed with Vitamin K. You can swap out kale for your favorite dark leafy green or spinach.
- Celery: A few celery stalks go a long way in this juice as far as health benefits. Don’t worry, for those who don’t like the taste of celery juice, it’s hardly detectable in this recipe!
- Apples: I’m using Gala apples for their sweetness as opposed to green apples that are much more sour. Any sweet red apple will do.
- Lemon: If you don’t have lemons on hand, lime juice works as well!
- Cucumber: Cucumber is refreshing and adds to the liquid base of this green juice because of its high water content.
- Fresh Ginger: Ginger adds a spicy kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.
How to Make Healthy Green Juice
Blender Instructions
Clean and roughly chop your fruits and vegetables. I like to cut up my ingredients the night before, so they’re ready to go in the morning, saving me time and energy!
Blend. Add all the ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend on high until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Tip: Add the cucumber to the blender first, since it has the highest water content, making it easier for the ingredients to blend.
Strain the juice. Over a large bowl, slowly pour the juice through a fine mesh sieve, using the back of a spoon to push out as much of the juice as possible. You can also use a nut bag or cheesecloth.
OR
Juicer Instructions
Use a cold-pressed juicer to retain maximum nutrients in your juice. Its slower, gentler process minimizes heat and oxidation, ensuring a healthier and tastier beverage. I’m using this cold press juicer.
Clean and chop your fruits and veggies. Depending on the type of juicer you have, you’ll need to cut your veggies so they will fit into the tube/feeder.
Juice. Slowly add the ingredients to the tube/feeder.
Drink! Pour the fresh juice into a glass jar and enjoy!
Customize Your Green Juice
My favorite thing about this recipe is that you can adjust it using various vegetables, fruit, and herbs! Just stick to my recipe as the base and experiment with your favorite fruits and veggies.
Add leafy greens: Experiment with a mix of leafy greens such as kale, spinach, or Swiss chard to tailor your green juice’s flavor and nutrient profile.
Adjust the sweetness: Make this green juice sweeter by adding more apples or even pineapple! Add some honey or maple syrup if you want an even sweeter green juice.
Get herby: Explore herbs such as mint, cilantro, or even fresh parsley to your green juice to add depth and a boost of micronutrients.
Storage Instructions
This juice is best consumed right after you make it, but you can store it in the fridge overnight.
What to do with leftover pulp?
Smoothies: Incorporate the pulp into your morning smoothies for added fiber and texture, boosting the nutritional content of your smoothie.
Soups and Broths: Toss the pulp into soups or vegetable broths to infuse them with additional flavor, nutrients, and a hint of texture.
Composting: If repurposing isn’t feasible, consider composting the pulp to enrich your garden soil and contribute to sustainable waste management!
